Resilience levels

The resilience level declared on a Project controls replica distribution across Zones. It defines the trade-off between cost and fault tolerance.

Levels

Impact by resource type

  • Compute — replicas distributed per level; automatic internal load balancing.
  • Datastore — in multi-zone, enables ha (managed replica and failover). In multi-region, async replication is default; sync on Enterprise contracts.
  • Archive — cross-zone replication for object storage; block volumes live in the owning Compute's Zone.
  • Fabric — one private network per Zone with automatic interconnection.
  • Gateway — in multi-region, routing by client proximity (planned).
  • Autoscale — scales across all involved Zones.

Changing the level

Changes apply online. Promoting from unica to multi-zona allocates replicas in additional Zones without interrupting existing ones; the reverse releases extra Zones at billing cycle end.

Promoting a production Datastore to ha=true may require a short maintenance window for initial synchronization.
